Nothing Can Separate Us: An All Saints Day Reflection

As the people of God, participating in the mission of God, through embodying the love of Jesus in everyday life, the church is a diverse and widespread community. The church is made up of people from varying social as well as geographic locations. It’s amazing to think that the church is bigger and broader than any one congregation. But the broad range of inclusion of the saints doesn’t end there! As people of the living, resurrected King Jesus, not even death divides us. The church is united throughout all time!

The saints of the past and present are one body in Christ.

Churches of the Western tradition typically recognize November 1 as a day to celebrate this unity among all of the saints (throughout time and place). All Saints Day — All Hallows' Day, or Hallowmas, is a Christian celebration in honor of all the saints from Christian history.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).

Neither family background, ethnicity, social location, country of origin, job status, and not even death alters the union of ALL SAINTS in Christ. What an astonishing thought to meditate on today and always.
